3 Effective Home Remedy for Sore Throat


  • Sore throat is usually not serious at all, but it is quite common and annoying. According to statistics, sore throat is one of the main reasons why people see doctors.

 Lots of fluids and saltwater

If you want a simple home remedy for sore throat that will help you ease the symptoms, you should try drinking herbal teas like sage and chamomile. If you add a little honey and ginger, you will feel more energized in no time and the warm drink will soothe your sore throat. 
  • Salt water has always been known as an effective remedy for sore throat. Make a solution of warm water and sea salt and gargle. You will need half a cup of water with ¼ teaspoon of salt. You may use that mixture to gargle several times a day because it will help clear the excess mucus from your sore throat.                                                                  

 Honey and Lemon

  • As you already know, honey is probably the most effective home remedy for sore throat. If you combine it with lemon, you will make it even more effective with the addition of Vitamin C. Mix some lemon and homey with very hot water and allow it to cool a little before sipping. The honey will coat and soothe your throat, while the lemon will help with cutting mucus. 
  • You can also suck on the lemon, but you also do that with a throat lozenge or hard candy. The lemon juice soothes the sore throat, while the vitamin C will help fight germs. If you use throat lozenge or candy, there will be an extra amount of saliva produced, which will clean your throat.



Additional tips
  • You may be afraid of anything cold when you have a sore throat, but cold foods like frozen fruit bars, frozen yoghurt and ice cream can actually be an effective home remedy for sore throat. The soothing texture and cold the temperature of these foods will temporarily relieve your condition.
  •  Another tip we can give you is using a humidifier to add moisture to the air, which will prevent the drying of your mucous membranes and will reduce irritation, making you able to sleep more easily. Getting plenty of rest is very important for your body to recover faster from the virus that caused the sore throat. 
  • You should avoid secondhand smoke exposure, smoking, caffeine and alcohol. Smoke is a powerful irritant that will make your sore throat worse than it already is. Caffeine and alcohol may cause dehydration and worsen the Symptoms further.
